Bluesky launches blue check verification to authenticate accounts
BlueSky has announced a new blue check verification sign for notable accounts on the platform. The decentralised platform will “proactively verify” accounts and assign them a checkmark within a blue circle a la former Twitter.
Bluesky will also be working with a group of “Trusted Verifiers,” independent organisations that can verify accounts as members of their team. This means that a company can verify its employees directly in the app.
“When you tap on a verified account’s blue check, you’ll see which organizations have granted verification,” the company said in a blog.
Bluesky will have a moderation team to ensure the authenticity of every verification.
Users can’t apply for the verified account status as was previously done with X but Bluesky has said that once the “feature stabilises based on feedback,” they will be taking requests.
There is also an option to hide their verification sign under Settings.
Bluesky had a verification system already where an account could set their domain name as the username.
