OpenAI’s ChatGPT rolls out upgraded Memory for free users
OpenAI said that it is rolling out a lightweight version of their improved Memory feature to free users. The feature was earlier available to just paid subscribers and allowed ChatGPT to better reference past conversations to offer more personalised responses.
“Free users have a lightweight version of memory improvements that provides short term continuity across conversations. Memory for Plus and Pro users provides a longer term understanding of the user,” an OpenAI support page stated.
The company also said that free users in the EU and the UK, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein will find a prompt to enable the option for ‘Reference chat history’ under Settings. However, for users outside the EU regions, the feature is enabled automatically.
Users can also turn off the option for “saved memories” or “chat history” anytime they want to or use the Temporary Chat option.
ChatGPT had launched the upgraded Memory feature in April for Pro and Plus users so they didn’t have to give context to the AI chatbot every time they logged in.
