Elon Musk says he regrets some posts he made about Trump

Billionaire Elon Musk said on Wednesday (June 11, 2025) that he regrets some of the posts he made last week about U.S. President Donald Trump, in a message on his social media platform X.

"I regret some of my posts about President Donald Trump last week. They went too far," Mr. Musk wrote.

Mr. Musk's post comes days after Mr. Trump said his relationship with Mr. Musk was over.

“Look, Elon and I had a great relationship. I don’t know if we will anymore,” Mr. Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.

The tech billionaire, who exited his role as a top White House adviser two weeks ago, alleged on June 5 that the Republican leader is featured in secret government files on the rich and powerful former associates of disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.

Row over Trump’s bill

At the centre of the bitter row is Mr. Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” on tax and spending. The centrepiece of his domestic agenda, it aims to continue tax cuts from his first term — and could define his second term and make or break Republican prospects in the 2026 midterm elections.

Mr. Trump and Mr. Musk began exchanging insults last week on social media, with the Tesla and SpaceX CEO describing the president's sweeping tax and spending bill as a "disgusting abomination." The row exploded on May 5 when Mr. Trump said he was “very disappointed” by Mr. Musk and threatened to end his government contracts.

Mr. Musk then ratcheted up the public spat even further, saying the Republican would have lost the election without his support. He was the biggest donor to Trump’s campaign, to the tune of nearly $300 million. “Without me, Trump would have lost the election,” Mr. Musk said on X. “Such ingratitude.”

Here’s how the row unfolded:
